Our Name
The name SLIQUA (pronounced slee-kah) is inspired by the South Slavic word slika, meaning image, picture, or painting.
It reflects the idea of "painting a picture" of Europe's diverse cultures through the objects, materials, and traditions that have shaped them.
Each work presented on SLIQUA offers a glimpse into the cultural environments, histories, and craft practices from which it emerges.
How We Select Our Works
SLIQUA seeks works that maintain a meaningful connection to the cultures from which they emerge. This connection may be expressed through materials, techniques, forms, functions, or the lived knowledge and creative practice of the people who make them.
The gallery collaborates with independent artisans, small workshops, and selected organisations that support traditional and culturally rooted making practices. Particular importance is placed on authorship, transparency, and long-term relationships with makers. The collection focuses on one-of-a-kind works and small-scale production, where time, skill, and individual craftsmanship remain central to the making process.
Particular value is placed on quality, craftsmanship, material knowledge, and the thoughtful use of natural and locally sourced materials.
Carefully considered sourcing and production practices are an important part of SLIQUA's approach. The gallery's selection is guided by principles of responsible and cruelty-free sourcing that support the wellbeing of people, animals, and the environment, while respecting the integrity of cultural traditions and making practices.

Founder's Note
SLIQUA was founded by Ivana Mrdak.
Following a career in business and consulting and years of involvement in cultural and impact-driven initiatives, SLIQUA grew from those experiences together with a long-standing personal interest in art, craft, and interior design.
Through discovering artisans across Europe, it became clear that many remarkable craft traditions remain difficult to discover beyond the regions where they originated. SLIQUA was created as a dedicated space where these works can be discovered, appreciated, and shared with a wider audience.
At its heart, SLIQUA is an invitation to discover the cultures, traditions, and makers behind the works we live with.
